Kenya is home to some of the wealthiest individuals in Africa. According to the 2024 Africa Wealth Report released on April 16, 2024, by International wealth advisory firm Henley & Partners in collaboration with global wealth intelligence partner New World Wealth, Kenya is home to 7200 dollar millionaires.
These individuals hold interests in various sectors of the economy - and in this article, Now.co.ke ranks some of the richest investors on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
John Kibunga Kimani
The reclusive tycoon is reported to have a $33.4 million net worth on NSE. He owns a 32.3 per cent stake in agricultural company Kakuzi Plc. The company is reportedly worth $23,816,832 according to the website, Billionaires Africa.
Kibunga owns 16.2 million shares in telco Safaricom worth over $7 million, a 2.99 per cent stake in Nation Media Group (NMG) worth over $1.4 million and a 1.21 per cent stake in Centum worth over $1.14 million.
James Mwangi
The Equity Group CEO is among the wealthiest individuals in the country. He boasts a vast portfolio in the money market including traded shares in multiple companies.
Mwangi owns a 3.38 per cent stake in Equity Group Holdings valued at over $59.54 million and a 2.74 stake in Britam Holdings. His net worth at NSE is estimated at $65.2 million.

Suresh Bhagwanji R. Shah
Shah is the founder of one of Kenya's largest banking groups, I&M Bank - which has operations in Tanzania, Rwanda and Mauritius. He boasts a $34.9 million investment portfolio on NSE.
He owns 10.8 per cent of the financial services group through holding companies and trusts. His stake is worth $34,992,050.
Jane Wangui Njuguna
She is the wife of Equity Group CEO James Mwangi. She owns a 1.71 per cent stake in the lender valued at $31.08 million.
Baloobhai and Amarjeet Patel
The couple's interests at the Nairobi bourse are;
2.86 at Williamson Tea worth $599,084, 0.78 per cent stake at Absa Bank valued at $3.8 million, a 1.45 per cent stake at Bamburi Cement worth $2.45 million, and a 40.38 per cent stake in Carbacid Investments, which is worth $11.73 million.

Andrew owns a 4.30 per cent stake in NCBA Bank valued at $16.4 million.
Gideon Maina Muriuki
The Co-operative Bank of Kenya CEO owns a 1.75 per cent stake in the lender valued at 12.8 million. He also owns a 4.7 per cent stake in CIC Insurance valued at $3.55 per cent.
James Ndegwa
He is the son of former Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Phillip Ndegwa. He is the chairman of First Chartered Securities an investment vehicle through which he owns a 4.10 per cent stake in NCBA Bank valued at $15.5 million.
Benson Wairegi
He is the CEO of Britam Holdings and owns a 4.02 per cent stake in the lender worth $7.71 million.
Jimnah Mbaru
The Dyer and Blair Investment Bank founder owns a 7.72 per cent stake in Britam Holdings worth $14.7 million.
