Graduate cops whose earnings had been slashed will now be reinstated.
This is after a landmark ruling by Judge Nduma Nderi declared the move by the National Police Service Commission to degrade fresh graduates illegal.
“The decision was arbitrary, unreasonable, unlawful and a blatant violation of the accrued rights of the officers from the date of their recruitment to that when they were demoted for no good cause and their remuneration reduced to their great loss and detriment.”Judge Nduma stated.
The court ruled that it is their right to earn salaries commensurate to their ranks and service delivery.
Thereby rendering null and void a previous notice by the inspector General of police in 2021.
“The court is satisfied that the reduction in salary and rank was not preceded by a notice to affected police officers and the decision was implemented by the Inspector General of Police and NPSC without giving them any opportunity to be heard,” read the judgment in part.
The court further prohibited the Inspector General of the police and the national police service commission either by themselves, agents is service, and in any manner reducing the salaries of the graduate officers
The officers had been demoted from job group J to F and restricted from scaling the ranks.
