President Uhuru Kenyatta Reshuffles Cabinet Ending Months of Speculation

President Uhuru Kenyatta has carried out a mini Cabinet reshuffle after months of speculation.

In the reshuffle, Ambassador Monica Juma has been moved from the Ministry of Defence to Ministry of Energy.

Her place has been taken by Eugene Wamalwa who has been moved from the Ministry of Devolution.

Charles Keter will now replace Mr Wamalwa in the Devolution Ministry.

On the other hand, the President has expanded the portfolio of Gender CS, Prof. Margaret Kobia.

Prof Kobia will now be in charge of the expanded Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens and Special Programmes.

The President also reshuffled several Principal Secretaries. Maj. Gen (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa has been moved from State Department for Public Works to the State Department for Energy.

Dr. (Eng.) Joseph K. Njoroge has been moved from the Ministry of Energy to State Department for Transport.

Solomon Kitungu has been moved from State Department for Transport to the State Department for Public Works.

At the same time, Nelson Marwa Sospeter has been moved from the State Department of Labour Services and will serve under CS Kobia in the State Department for Social Protection, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes.

The announcements were made by State House spokesperson and head of the Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU), Kanze Dena Mararo.

The Head of State also transferred the State Department for Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASALs) from the Ministry of Devolution to the Ministry of Public Service and Gender.

The State Department for Social Protection, Pensions and Senior Citizens was moved from the Ministry of Labour to the Ministry of Public Service and Gender.

The President also moved the Department of Special Programmes from the Ministry of Devolution to the State Department for Social Protection, Pensions and Senior Citizens Affairs.

The Ministry of Devolution and ASALs was also reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Devolution.

The Ministry of Public Service and Gender was also reconstituted and renamed the Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs and Special Programmes.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection was also reconstituted and renamed as the Ministry of Labour.

The Head of State said the changes are meant to make the operations of his government more effective.
