WhatsApp Reported Defunct :Users Unable To send Or Receive Messages

Update: WhatsApp is now running on both android and IOS as well as on WhatsApp Web used on desktops and laptops. The instant messaging app has apologized to users for the downtime experienced.

The Meta company did not reveal the cause of the outage. Sister companies Facebook and Instagram also experience challenges albeit on a lesser magnitude.

WhatsApp has become a key communication channel for businesses and social conversations.

Down Detector, a website that tracks online outages across the globe has shown a sharp spike in the number of users reporting WhatsApp’s outage.
The Meta company spokesperson said, "We're aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we're working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible."
WhatsApp users experienced a similar outage last year in October when there were far-reaching consequences.
The downtime experience affected the trading of assets from cryptocurrencies to oil. Traders would later explore other platforms such as Telegram.
WhatsApp is the go-to app for instant messaging and boasts of 2 billion active monthly users. It is remotely rivaled by Telegram which has a monthly subscription of about 700 million users.

This is yet another incidence that one of meta's companies is experiencing an outage over the last few weeks.

Recently social media was awash with reports of social media users losing their followers, especially on Facebook
The rare situation affected the Meta CEO and business mogul Mark Zuckerberg who lost 119 million followers.

The situation was soon resolved and users regained their audience.
