You Will Face State Wrath if You Support William Ruto - Maina Kamanda to Waiguru

Nairobi, September 23

The ruling Jubilee Party has threatened to punish Kirinyaga Governor Anne Mumbi Waiguru over her resolve to decamp.

The President Uhuru Kenyatta's camp has issued an ultimatum to Ms Waiguru to reverse her decision failure to which she will face the wrath of the state.

Led by nominated MP representing special interests, Maina Kamanda, the party accuses the Kirinyaga governor of disrespecting the President and the party.

Mr Kamanda, a former elected legislator and a close ally of Mr Kenyatta, accuses the first-time governor of supporting Mr Kenyatta's deputy, William Ruto, who has since fallen out with the party.

Mr Ruto and Kenyatta do not see eye-to-eye with the latter accusing his deputy of antagonising the government agenda.

The bad blood between the two leaders dates back to March 9, 2018, when Mr Kenyatta and opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga shook hands and agreed to work together in uniting the country.

The famous handshake culminated into the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) that was on August 20, 2021, declared as illegal and unconstitutional by the Court of Appeal.

The Appellant Court ruled that the BBI proponents failed to follow the laid down procedure in their quest to amend the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

The BBI sought to expand the Executive by introducing the Office of the Prime Minister and two deputies. It also sought to change the appointment of members of the Cabinet to allow the President nominated them from among the elected Members of Parliament.

Upon the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Ms Waiguru said the proposals in the BBI did not resonate with the people of Mt Kenya and that it was unpopular, this, despite her campaigning for it.

She later denied endorsing Mr Odinga for the presidency come 2022.

Mr Kamanda now says Waiguru's actions are tantamount to betrayal.

"Governor Anne Waiguru has betrayed and disrespected both the President and the Jubilee Party," said Mr Kamanda on September 22.

"How can you support William Ruto whose allies were insulting you in every podium they take?"

Mr Kamanda now threatens that Ms Waiguru will face consequences if she sticks with MrRuto.

"Waiguru will face the wrath of the state if she doesn't reverse her decisions."
