For those who dare to dream, reward lurks in the resilience of their effort - this best describes the career and personal accomplishments of Veronica Mumira, a nurse and midwife with over 18 years experience.

Veronica is the owner of Auscare Group in Perth, Australia, Georgia Luxury Apartments, and Auscare International College located along Nyali Links Road in Mombasa.

From a humble background, Mumira dreamt big and is now an epitome of success - a role model to many young women in the country. Her passion for community empowerment pushed her towards setting up the college with the aim of producing internationally qualified medical practitioners - to bridge the existing gap in healthcare provision.

Auscare International College

During a previous interview with Chams Media, Veronica explained that the college provides Australian Standard education in Kenya.

"My passion was always to bring back my skills as a nurse to Kenya. Auscare international college is a sister company to Auscare group in Australia. The group began in 2009. Auscare is a registered trading organisation from which we brought the college to Kenya.

"We offer three individual support; where the students will be looking after the elderly, disability and community clients and the diploma of community science is all about case management working with different cohorts of clients from the prison system, disability clients, and drug addicts. It's an inclusive education system," she stated.

Veronica immigrated to Australia at the age of 20. She attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating with a Bachelor of Science and Nursing degree. Upon graduation, she was employed by the department of health at Bentley Hospital.

She furthered her studies, obtaining a postgraduate degree in Midwifery from Curtin University.

Having lived and practicing medicine in Australia, Mumira noticed the huge gap in healthcare - shortage of professionals to offer assisted care in and out of medical institutions.

"I saw an opportunity, that is how the staffing agency was born. I intend to convert the college into a fully fledged institution offering training for healthcare practitioners," she described her vision at the time.

A certificate at the institution takes a period of six months after which the students can apply for diploma courses in Australia. Upon graduation, the health care practitioners are qualified to work any where in the world, especially Europe.

Speaking to Alex Chamwada on Daring Abroad, Mumira revealed that she saved up money for 20 years to construct the luxurious ocean front apartments.

"I did not borrow any loans so the money I had saved is what helped me fund the project in Kenya. It has not been easy but I was very determined.

"I wanted to show Kenyans that even though one door is not opened, you can still push yourself to the limit and make it happen," she stated.

Mumira was in Australia as construction of the property was ongoing, but followed closely on the progress. Consultants on the ground constantly kept her in the loop.

"I monitored the project on CCTV cameras. I know what is happening on the ground, zooming during management meetings so it has been great," she narrated.

Veronica attributes her entrepreneurial skills to her mother whom she says owned and operated a clinic in Likoni.

Georgia Luxury Apartments comprises of seven floors and 28 three-bedroomed units. A three-bedroomed unit costs an average of Ksh17 million to Ksh24 million. In addition, a five-bedroomed penthouse suite costs Ksh95 million per unit.
