The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has recommended a monthly gross salary of Ksh780,000 for Chief Administrative Secretaries (CASs) - should they be appointed by President William Ruto.

According to SRC, the salary can be broken down as follows; Ksh459,113 basic pay, Ksh165,000 house allowance, and Ksh155,887 salary market adjustment.

The commission also recommended that the CASs be provided with an official means of transport - a car with engine power not exceeding 3000cc.

“SRC has determined the monetary worth of the job of a CAS at Grade F1 and would like to advice on the attendant remuneration and benefits structure,” SRC Chair Lynn Mengich said in a letter dated March 14.

“The monthly remuneration advised herein is fixed for the term of office of the CAS unless reviewed and advised by SRC. For the purposes of gratuity and pension, the pensionable emolument shall be based on the monthly basic salary.”

The letter was copied to Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo, Public Service PS Amos Gathecha and Auditor General Nancy Gathungu

SRC also recommended a Ksh10 million in patient cover for the CASs; Ksh300,000 outpatient, Ksh150,000 maternity, Ksh75,000 dental, and Ksh75,000 optical.

The move by SRC comes days after parliament legalised the appointment of the CASs.
