Nairobi the capital city of Kenya is densely populated with it being home to over 4.3 million people most youthful.


Living in Nairobi is not for the faint-hearted especially not when you don't have decent income.

Nairobians have christened the city “shamba la mawe”loosely translated to a land of stones meaning that it is a jungle that only the fittest survive.


Here are a few tips that have worked and will definitely make your stay a bit more seamless.


•Shop in bulk and while at it shop from major outlets that offer more competitive prices unlike your local shop that has factored in their extra profit margin. 


•Roll up your windows .Whether driving or using public means,

especially so in traffic jam. Thieves are everywhere waiting for the opportune time to grab your assets right from your hand.

 

•Definitely buy a water tank

Given the population of Nairobi city ,water shortage is inevitable. You need a tank to save some water for yourself when water rationing hits.


•Make use of google maps for traffic

You are lucky if you get to work from home. However if you need to commute to the office on a daily either start your journey extremely early in the wee hours of the morning or in the midmorning hours when majority of the 8-5 fellows have reported. This will save you a lot of road time.

Alternatively use google maps to identify less congested routes you could use


•Make friends.These ones will bail you out whenever you get caught on the wrong side. In addition you could get your next client or job through a friend mentioning you. Ensure your friends know your skills and expertise.

The more further you are away from town the more housing gets cheaper. On the flip side you spend too much time commuting to town. Pick your struggle.
