11 Perish in Deadly Kitui Accident

Atraffic accident has yet again claimed eleven lives after a 14-seater PublicService Vehicle (PSV) veered off the road and rolled multiple times on Saturday5thJune 5, 2022,night while attempting to overtake another vehicle near the Kanyonyo junctionin Kitui.

 

Confirmingthe incident, Kanyonyoo sub-location assistant chief Jacob Mueti said thematatu was ferrying people who were coming from a dowry negotiation ceremony inMwingi when the accident occurred.

 

Ninepeople were confirmed dead on the spot and two others succumbed to theirinjuries while undergoing treatment at Kitui Level 5 hospital.The bodies of those whosuccumbed were moved to the Kitui Level 4 Hospital Mortuary while those whosustained injuries are receiving treatment at the same facility as well asMatuu Level 4 Hospital in Machakos, and the Kenyatta National Hospital inNairobi.

 

Theincident happened barely a day after another road monster claimed eight lives leaving severalothers with serious injuries after a lorry and a 14-seater Matatu belonging toEna Coach collided head-on in Narok County along the Narok-Bomet road on Friday 3rd June 2020.

 

Accidentshave been on the rise recently as another incident was also witnessed on Fridayevening a few hours after the one on the Narok-Bomet highway where 20 peoplewere rushed to Naivasha Referral Hospital after being involved in a roadaccident in the Kinungi area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highwayWherea Lorry, 14SeaterMatatu and a private car wereinvolved.

 

The National Transport and Safety Authority NTSA hasalways urged road users to be responsible whether in complying with trafficrules as a driver, rider or pedestrian, enforcing the law, or educating othersin engaging in safe behaviour to curb the rising numbers of deaths from theroad accidents
