A senior official at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Joseph Patterson Okhako has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for allegedly offering consultancy and training services to KPA through his private entity.

Okakho, who also doubles up as a director of Ethics Institute of East Africa was arrested on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.

He will be arraigned in court on Wednesday July 6, awaiting to take a plea a the Mombasa Anti-corruption Court. 

Commenting on his arrest, EACC said Okhako received approximately Kshs. 2.4 million without making a disclosure to his employer about his role and interest in the Institute.

The integrity watchdog warned public officers of not using their positions of trust to confer benefits to themselves or other persons.

"Public officers are prohibited from engaging in any conduct where their private interests compete with the public interest."

At the same time, Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji praised EACC okaying Okakho's prosecution for charges on Conflict of Interest contrary to the law.
