The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Friday, May 20 recovered a consignment of cocaine worth approximately Kshs 100 million, which is described to be the largest in many months, from a house in Utange, Mombasa county.

The detectives drawn from the Transnational Organized Crimes and the Anti-Narcotics units from conducted the sting operation where they busted one female suspect identified as Nuru Murshid Mahfud, 29, who was nabbed and taken into custody at one of the police stations in the coastal city.

The agency pinned the success of the operation on leads and tips from the public through their toll-free line which helped them spring into action and handle the matter swiftly before the drugs were distributed.

However, they remained puzzled over the manner in which the drug was packed, as it seemed as if it was already packaged for shipment, with the destination remaining a mystery.

"It has not been established whether the drug which was carefully packaged in 35 sachets and concealed in suitcases was meant for local consumption or was on transit to a different destination," the DCI stated.

The drug was taken to the  DCI National Forensic Laboratory for further testing by experts at the Chemistry and Toxicology units as the manhunt for the suspect's accomplices continues.

Kenyans are urged to report any suspicious activity in their vicinities to the agency through 0800 722 203.
