The court on Monday, November 21 sentenced James Mugo Ndichu, popularly known as Mugo Wairimu to 29 years behind bars after he was found guilty of rape during his stint as fake gynaecologist in his illegal clinic.

Mugo was found guilty of administering drugs to patients to overpower them , after which he would then rape them in the clinic he was running illegally without requisite academic qualifications in 2015.

Out of the 12 counts he was charged with, Milimani chief magistrate Wendy Micheni who handed the sentence found him guilty of 10, which led to the harsh sentence owing to the severity of the offence.

She noted that Mugo was a danger to society, especially to women and a lenient sentence was out of the question.

"I have considered the accused persons need to be back to the society but he endangered the female patients and would administer to them drugs and rape them. He made himself a gynaecologist", the magistrate ruled.

During the ruling,  Mugo expressed his remorse , saying his mission was to serve the community through his medical career.

"I regret that what I started as a noble ambition took me to where I am. I pray for a lenient sentence that will allow me to join my family and continue serving my community as a citizen," he told the court.

This bring the total number of years he will serve behind bars to 40 as he  is already serving 11 years in jail for operating unlicensed medical facilities.
