Features of The New Locally Assembled Volkswagen T-cross.

The Volkswagen was on Thursday unveiled at the DT Dobie showroom Lusaka road.

The five seater two -wheel mini SUV is modeled with the young professional in mind .The buying price of the vehicle is capped at 3.6 million Kenyan shillings for the top line and 4.3 million for the high line inclusive of Value Added Tax.


It’s not only well built but also  a fuel efficient vehicle with a 1.6 liter and 108 horsepower engine.


Safety equipment integrated into both models of  the Volkswagen T-cross include;a rear view camera,auto-dimming interior review mirror,electronic immobilizer and a tire pressure monitor.


Other safety equipment includes Anti-spin regulation electronic stability control ,Anti-locking Brake system,

To further enhance the driving experience the vehicle is integrated with a wired and wireless App connection which enables the driver to connect to the digital world.

What’s more  you can charge your mobile phone wirelessly by only placing it in the inductive charging tray.


It is a spacious vehicle big enough to accommodate five adults as well as a big square boot to ferry luggage.


Volkswagen Kenya has also factored in the European Union pollution rules set in 2005 in the production process.


The assembler of the Volkswagen T-cross, Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers facility in Thika intimated at plans to start assembling electric vehicles.


“We are making steps towards electric vehicles in Kenya automotive industry,especially since the Kenya Bureau of Standards regulations are changing”Ndala -Managing Director DT Dobie Kenya.


He added that from January 2023  vehicles assembled locally will have to conform to the Euro 4 emissions standards.

The Euro 4 standards are strict measures introduced  to ensure all vehicles produces have engines that have lower emissions.


The requirements include carbon monoxide emission of less than one gram per kilometer ,nitrogen oxides emissions of 0.08g/km and hydro carbon emissions of no more than 0.1 g/km.

According to the Euro 4 standards”exhaust shall not emit dense blue or clearly visible black smoke.”

locally assembled cars as well as second hand imports are expected to adhere to the set standards.
