Yesterday  President William Ruto released the names of his nominees for various cabinet posts.

Unlike his predecessor who appointed technocrats and academicians, William Ruto rewarded loyalists who stuck with him through his journey to State House.

Orange Democratic Movement secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna have expressed skepticism about the president’s choice of Cabinet Secretaries.

Edwin Sifuna noted that more than 50 percent of the nominees are of questionable record some with ongoing charges in court.

For instance, Mithika Linturi was recently embroiled in a court case due to allegations of attempted rape.

Aisha Jumwa is still facing murder charges together with co-accused Geoffrey Okuto Otieno that transpired during the Gumba ward by-elections.

Moses Kuria on the other hand has faced hate speech charges more than any other legislator in Kenya. He has been nominated for Trade ,Investment and Industry.

She is also facing graft allegations of 19 million.

"Kenya Kwanza actually has half-decent people in its ranks. That they went for the very worst of the bunch for Cabinet should tell you that there is no intention to govern at all. I mean, is that a proposed Cabinet list or a criminal cases update from the office of the DPP?" Sifuna stated.

“If our colleagues in the National Assembly stay true to their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, more than half of those criminals proposed should not make it to Cabinet.”Edwin Sifuna tweeted.

As per the constitution, the nominated cabinet secretaries will have to be vetted by parliament before assuming office.

President Ruto’s opponents from the Azimio Coalition have criticized his appointments. Eugene Wamalwa for example has questioned the president's failure to appoint a cabinet secretary for devolution. Questions have risen on the constitutionality of that move.

Kisumu Governor Anyang’Nyong’o has also faulted the president on allegations of failing to observe ethnic and regional balance.

Musalia Mudavadi and Rigathi Gachagua have been tasked with almost similar roles.

Despite failing to allocate 50 percent of cabinet slots to women, President Ruto could deliver on the gentleman’s agreement with his ardent supporters.

For example, Musalia Mudavadi was allocated the the chief cabinet secretary post and Kithure Kindiki Cabinet Secretary for Interior.
