The CS in a Gazette notice dated Tuesday, April 9, 2024, announced that the country will take a break to celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr.

"It is notified for the general information of the public that, in the exercise of the powers conferred by section 2(1) of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares that Wednesday, the 10th April, 2024 shall be a Public Holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr," the notice read in part.

Idd-ul-Fitr also known as 'breaking of the fast' is a holiday celebrated worldwide by members of the Islamic faith to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadhan.

Therefore, April 10, for many around the world, marks one of the largest and most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar.

To celebrate the end of the holy month of fasting, President William Ruto held an Iftar dinner with leaders from the Muslim community in Kenya at State House Nairobi on Monday, April 8.

During the meeting, the head of state promised to resolve several issues affecting members of the marginalised communities in Kenya. Some of these include the need for vetting for some communities while applying for national ID cards.

Effective May 2024, President Ruto announced that members of the Nubian, Asian, Somali, and Arab communities will no longer be required to undergo vetting before they can apply for IDs.
