The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has offered Public Service CS nominee Aisha Jumwa and her Agriculture counterpart Mithika Linturi a reprieve as the duo has sailed through the vetting process to assume office.

They are however not out of the woods yet as a minority report recommending their rejection has been included in the vetting report, with 10 committees members approving their appointment and seven dissenting, while one member abstaining during the vote.

Jumwa and Linturi have made headlines in the past over criminal cases leveled against them, which was a matter of grave concern in the committee, so as not to affect their performance in their dockets.

Majority leader Kimani Ichungwa stated that the committee resolved to give them the benefit of doubt, with the assurance that in the event that the duo are convicted for their criminal cases, they would take full responsibility and resign.

The same could not be said for Tourism CS Peninah Malonza who was rejected by the committee in the report tabled by Ichung’wa before Parliament on Tuesday, October 25.

He however defended her eligibility, stating that she met all requirements needed to assume the position, and the rejection should not deter her from being appointed in public office in another capacity.

"It is important to state that it was decision of the committee, and it is important to note that it is not a vindication that she cannot hold public office," Ichungwa stated.

The appointment of the other cabinet nominees has been approved , as well as the appointment of Mercy Wanajua as secretary to the cabinet and Justin Bedan Muturi as Attorney General.

The motion for their approval in the House has kicked off, with MPs expected to debate the nominees' eligibility to take up the crucial dockets in government.
