Kenya Power Addresses Mombasa Electrocution That Left One Dead

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has issued a statement on an electrocution incident that occured in the Kisauni area of Mombasa that left one person dead and another nursing injuries.

Through its social media accounts, the power supplier on Tuesday, June 28, expressed its regret over the incident, shedding light on what transpired on the day of the electrocution.

According to police reports, the deceased identified as a military officer met his death when he came into contact with an energised clothesline after an electricity poll fell on it owing to strong winds in the area.

The police report stated that the deceased Major Said Komora, was having dinner with his family at around 7.45 pm when their house help, who had gone outside to hang a mop on the clothesline, cried for help.

Komora responded to the distress call and found that she had been electrocuted and successfully managed to rescue her, but touched the same line unknowingly leading to his electrocution.

"The deceased successfully rescued her but with a slight injury on her right hand...before he unknowingly touched the iron clothing line and was electrocuted,"the police report read.

He however did not make it as he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. His body was moved to the Jocham Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.

KPLC revealed that it immediately responded after receiving the emergency call and de-energized the affected power line ,and launched a probe into the incident and will forward a report to the necessary law enforcement agencies.

"In the meantime, Kenya Power is carrying out detailed investigations which will be forwarded to the Police and other investigative authorities who are also conducting a parallel probe into the incident," the statement read.

The company in the same capacity extended its condolences to the family and it would issue the next course of action.

"We are in touch with the bereaved family and would like to assure them, and members of Montana area, that this matter will be fully investigated to inform the next course of action," it concluded.
