Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has been named as the United Democratic Alliance's chief agent by party leader Deputy President William Ruto.

DP Ruto made the announcement after receiving his nomination certificate from the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati at the Bomas of Kenya.

Kindiki will be tasked with being the link between the electoral body and the party in terms of communication regarding the polls, and will be assisted by Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok and UDA SG Veronica Maina .

"I have appointed responsible professionals to be our liaison between Kenya Kwanza and IEBC... They will work with you in making sure that the communication and the relationship between us as candidates and IEBC is useful and helpful," DP Ruto said.

The new position comes after the senator missed out on the running mate position that was handed to Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua , and announced that he would be taking a step back from elective politics, but would remain open if any appointments came his way.

"After soul-searching, I have decided to remain in UDA and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance. I have decided to take a break from active politics starting August 10.

"I will not be seeking any appointive position whatsoever. However, I will be available to seek any position in future that may be available at the national level," he said.

DP Ruto retracted his initial statement that the IEBC was under the influence of state officials to undermine the transparency of the elections, and expressed his confidence in the commission in overseeing that the exercise would be free and fair but most of all peaceful.

"We are confident that you are up to the task and we will work with you diligently," he said.
