The parents to Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki have expressed confidence in their son as the country's second in command, hopeful that Deputy President William Ruto will be unveiling him as his deputy in the runup to the August 9 elections.

Speaking in an interview on KTN News, the senator's parents have revealed that the news of their son becoming DP Ruto's running mate compelled them to seek divine intervention, holding prayer sessions at their home all in pursuit of the much-coveted position.

According to his father, Daniel Kindiki, their household had to intensify their prayer sessions after it emerged that there were other contenders for the position.

Among the names was Mathira Mp Rigathi Gachagua, who has been fronted as another suitable candidate in accordance to the Kenyan Kwanza power sharing deal that states the DP's running mate will be drawn from the Mt Kenya region.

Rigathi has an upper hand over Kindiki in terms of the numbers he brings, as he hails from the vote-rich region of Mt Kenya which accounts for approximately 494,839 votes by estimates tallied by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) while Kindiki brings approximately 235,000 votes from his county.

"Yesterday night we had a special prayer session with his mother. We asked God to remember him since we heard some people saying Ruto was considering Gachagua because he comes from a majority group among the Kikuyu community," the Senator's father stated.

He also gave an account of the senator's political ambitions since his campus days at Moi University, and was always keen on elective posts that have been backed by his academic achievements.

"I was very surprised he could think of that at such a young age. He was very proactive even after joining Moi University [for his undergraduate studies]. We saw a politician in him," the father added, noting that this set him apart from other leaders.

His mother continues to hold on to her faith that her son would be picked by the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

"I have hope. I will be very happy to hear that Ruto has chosen my son," Kithure's mother remarked.
