KNH Responds After Public Outcry Following Viral Photo Of Child With Forked Jembe Stuck In Skull

The Kenyatta National Hospital was forced to address allegations of negligence after coming under fire from a section of Kenyans after a photo made rounds on social media showing a child with a forked jembe lodged in his head.

In a series of tweets, the hospital explained that it was in fact aware of the situation, and had taken the requisite measures to avail medical assistance.

KNH further explained why the child was still unattended , noting that the situation was quite dire, which led to delay in dislodging the tool from the child's skull.

"Our attention has been drawn to the story circulating online regarding a child admitted at KNH with a fork lodged in his skull. We wish to assure members of the public as follows,

"The patient had lost a lot of blood and as a result, the clotting process was not occurring as expected, thereby, delaying the surgical procedure as this would have been dangerous to the patient," the facility noted.

Kenyans were henced asked to remain calm as the child was in good hands and was undergoing surgery to save his life.

"The patient has since been stabilized and is currently undergoing a delicate operation in KNH theatres. We thank you for your concern and we assure you that the child is under the best care by our teams," the statement concluded.

The photo which went viral was shared by one Twitter user named Subi Queen who called out the institution, asking why the boy was unattended since his admission on Monday, October 10.

"This baby needs help jamani KNH?????jembe imekaa kwa kichwa since jana na bado kako casualty yet it’s an emergency," she stated.

This led to increased public outcry as Kenyans demanded for swift action to save the boy, especially owing to the gravity of the injury that demanded immediate attention.
