Police have seized a 36-kilogram consignment of drugs worth Kshs 2.5 million in Kiganjo village in Thika that was packed and ready for distribution.

“Today in the morning our officers who were on patron within Kiganjo Wakamande area, got a tip from members of the public that there was a vehicle parked with doors open and were suspecting the vehicle to be involved in illegal activities,” County Commander Police Kiambu Muchangi Kioi stated.

The drugs were found in a 14-seater public service vehicle which was to be used to ferry around the narcotics when members of the public raised alarm to the law enforcers made up of a multi-agency team, who sprung into action to swiftly recover before the drugs made their way to the wrong hands.

The suspects involved in the incident are still yet to be brought to book, but a manhunt has been launched to trace them before they engage in the trafficking of the drugs as investigations continue into the case, with Kioi urging them to come forward or face the wrath of the law.

“We are following them and we have the vehicle used to transport the drugs and through NTSA (National Transport and Safety Authority) we will trace the owner and the driver. We will also go after the farmer,” he said.

Kioi noted that the county has been subject to a spike in the number of criminal activities recently, as police also seized bhang and as well as a consignment of firearms designated for use in crime.

“We are very much on high alert, there is no room for criminals in Kiambu. You can remember last week we had a very huge recovery of homemade guns which were used to terrorize the residents,” the county commander stated.

He also thanked the public for their role in the unearthing of the drug ring and urged them to be on the lookout for any illegal activities as they continued collaborating with the police to curb drug-related crimes in the county.

“Whenever we get information from them [residents] we are treating it with a lot of confidentiality and out of the good public relations we have, they are ready to volunteer any information about any wrongdoing within Kiambu County,” he noted.
