Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has caused a stir online over statements he made during a Kenya Kwanza popularization forum held in Murang'a on Saturday, May 21 regarding the nomination of Martha Karua as Raila Odinga's running mate in the Azimio One Kenya Coalition.

Before he made the statements he made sure that his audience was aware that he would be put on the spot for the utterances, asking them whether they would bail him out if he got arrested for what he was about to say.

The MP, thereafter, went ahead to claim that a Mt. Kenya leader allied to the Azimio formation and who was privy to succession conversations, had spilled information that the former premier due to his advancing age would only take up the presidency in an interim capacity in the event that he clinched the top seat.

“Someone from Mt. Kenya, who is also a member of the Azimio la Umoja, has been going around saying that Raila Odinga won’t be able to finish his presidential term. So, he was suggesting that we elect Raila and support him with a leader from Mt. Kenya because he was certain Raila won’t finish his term,” Kuria amid gasps by the crowd.

“What kind of a relationship is based on wishing someone away? That’s deceit, that’s fraud,” he remarked.

He further implied that Karua's unveiling as Odinga's deputy had done nothing for Azimio as it still was the same party with feeble support, likening her new position in the coalition to the use of perfume to disguise the odor from a lavatory, to mirror the failures of all Odinga-led political formations to take over leadership in previous elections from 1997 to date.

Kenyans online were left flabbergasted over the abrasive tone that the Chama Cha Kazi party leader made the statements, calling him out for using his position to make statements that bordered hate and incitement.

"How this guy gets away with spewing garbage after garbage, must be the tragedy of our politics. How he has some loonies cheering him on is the stuff of our demented brand of politics," one social media user stated.

"It is sad this is how politics is played in Kenya. I'd rather they focus more on their agenda for Kenyans and transformation," Ochichi Duke stated.

"Very unfortunate it's getting personal, the next day it will turn into incitement of communities, and if that were to happen we will not have a country, I'm calling on relevant authorities to take action," Geoffrey Osanyo reiterated.
