The ODM Party led by Secretary General and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has decried alleged efforts by senior security officers to derail the administration of Kisii County Governor Simba Arati.

The party now says that it has followed keenly the happenings in Kisii County, claiming there is a plot by security officers to plant guns at the governor's home and then pursue him.

“We have heard an audio clip of a senior security official working in Kisii county explaining to someone how they are going to deal with Governor Simba Arati by invading his rural home and planting some weapons so as to fix him to please their political masters,” Senator Sifuna claimed.

According to Sifuna, persons known to the state are behind an elaborate plan to block Arati from fulfilling his manifesto. He highlighted intimidation and threats as the major tools used.

The Nairobi senator called upon Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to reign in on the security officers and allow Arati to execute his mandate without interference.

The party also pointed an accusing finger at South Mugirango Member of Parliament Sylvanus Osoro, accusing the lawmaker of masterminding the attacks against Governor Arati.

According to Sifuna, Governor Arati was attacked by goons hired by Osoro while attending a funeral in South Mugirango on January 6, 2023 in full glare of the police, but luckily, was whisked away to safety by his security team.

Arati is also said to have been attacked by the same goons while attempting to issue bursaries at Nyakembene Ward, still in South Mugirango. A security officer attached to his detail was injured in the scuffle and admitted in hospital.

Sifuna has since highlighted that the ODM Party is concerned by the repeated attacks against Governor Arati which have been ongoing since 2023.
