The National Police Service has released a statement regarding the arrest of Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja, dismissing the reports as false.

The statement signed by Police Spokesperson Bruno Shioso revealed that the embattled senator had gone to the agency headquarters on his volition, after reports that he was wanted over the his university degree matter that linked him to a global crime syndicate.

"He was cordially received by officers and turned away since he had not been summoned. He therefore left without any further police action," the statement read.

This comes shortly after reports that Sakaja had been arrested on Friday,June 17 just hours after daring the chief sleuth to do so over his alleged fake academic certificates.

Sakaja was reported to have been arrested by four DCI officers from his office at Riverside where he had just concluded a campaign meeting , and was taken to custody at the DCI headquarters.

The reason for his purported arrest had not be established yet.

DCI boss Kinoti in an interview with Nation on Friday, June 17 had made public that Sakaja was on the investigative agency's radar owing to his controversial degree saga and that investigations had been launched to ascertain whether he linked to an international crime syndicate that dealt in forgery.

Sakaja upon the knowledge of the same, dared Kinoti to make good on his word and arrest him, but to first substantiate his claims and to own or disown his remarks that he claimed were serious allegations meant to taint his image.

"We note that this publication comes amid the numerous allegations against our client and the malicious spread and/ or distribution of propaganda against our client herein," reads part of the letter to Kinoti from Sakaja's legal team.

It has now emerged that the senator decided to take matters into his own hands and present himself before the DCi before any action was taken against him.
