UPDATE:  Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Thursday, June 2, officially dropped his presidential bid and rejoined the Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

He also accepted his nomination as the Chief Minister in the formation, a position he had been offered by the coalition leader Raila Odinga before his dramatic exit.

"After deep introspection, I have deferred my dream to run for president in the upcoming General Election.

"I have since concluded and came to the realization that the future of Kenya is indeed squarely on our shoulders," he stated.

"Therefore, after wide consultation with the party leadership, the clergy, and the professionals, I have decided to accept, with humility and appreciation, my nomination as the Chief Minister in the Azimio One Kenya Coalition, of course, when, not if, but when we form the next government," he stated at the SKM Command Centre in Karen.

It appears as if the prodigal son returns as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has warmed up to the notion of rejoining the Azimio One Kenya Coalition as he made his first public appearance since announcing his quest in the presidential race and hinted that he was considering joining his old camp.

Musyoka was speaking during the funeral of Mzee Joseph Katithi at Kyawango village in Machakos County on Wednesday, June 1, where he delivered tributes he said were from President Kenyatta, Azimio One Kenya Coalition leader Odinga, Azimio running mate Martha Karua and Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, a clear indication that he was making his way back to the formation.

“I should have been here earlier but I first attended the Madaraka Day celebrations where I was sitting next to Martha Karua. She does not know this place but has asked me to deliver her tributes. President Kenyatta also sent his tributes. And as I was walking out, my brother Raila saw me; he also sent his greetings. Gideon Moi has also sent his greetings,” Musyoka said.

This was before he made public that he would make a major political announcement that would shake Kenya in two days' time, and hence asked the Kamba community to support him in his next political move.

“I shall declare my stand on the presidency. This time round I shall make the final decision. I shall not spare anything. It will be a scorched earth policy so that we must save this nation,” he said.

According to sources within the Azimio Coalition, the Wiper leader is also expected to be in attendance at the Azimio presidential rally on Thursday, June 2 at Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi County where he will share a podium with Odinga and other Azimio leaders.

Additionally, the Azimio Coalition secretary General Junet Mohamed also announced that the coalition is set for a mega rally, further implying that the meeting would include many leaders allied to the formation.

"Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party will address the nation tomorrow at 2 pm from Mukuru kwa Njenga," Junet shared on his Twitter account.
