Rigathi's Option After High Court Ruling On His Frozen Ksh.202Mn

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua ordered to forfeit Sh202 million to the government for being proceeds of corruption.

Court finds that he acquired the money from government agencies without supplying any goods or services

In June 2020, the court directed Gachagua's Ksh.202 million be frozen paving way for  investigations into how he acquired the funds.

Delivering the ruling on Thursday, July 28, Judge Esther Maina told Mathira MP Gachagua, who is UDA deputy presidential candidate that he was unable to provide proof of how he raised the money.

Gachagua, however, through his official Facebook page criticized the ruling saying that it was one-sided and meant to pin him down.

"The judgement today in my case against the Assets Recovery Agency, did not come as a surprise to me and my lawyers. Justice Maina refused our application to cross-examine the investigator in order to test the veracity of his allegations,” Gachagua's post read.

He also claimed that the verdict was a political witchhunt following his performance in the Deputy Presidential debate.

Gachagua further claimed that the judge turned down his request to call witnesses to substantiate on how he got his money.
