The Nane Nane anti-government protests continue to unfold across the country as police in Nairobi have sealed off major access roads, blocking Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) from entering the Central Business District (CBD).
Police have sealed off Jogoo Road, Mombasa Road at Nyayo Stadium and Waiyaki Way at Kangemi and Uthiru, blocking members of the public from moving to and from the Nairobi CBD.
Anti-riot police have engaged youth protesting along Kimathi Street in running battles leading to the arrest of several protestors. The police are also said to be ordering the closure of shops open within the Nairobi CBD and ordering the owners to vacate the city centre.
Traders and Boda Boda operators have not been spared as police are intent on dismantling even what appears to be congregations at unusual spots.
Nairobi CBD is under lockdown as police have barricaded most access roads leading into the city centre. Bunyala Road is among the passages into the CBD sealed off by security officers.
Tensions are high in Nairobi as more Nane Nane protestors converge within the CBD, voicing their discontent at the government over recent happenings.
Several protestors have since been arrested while others have been injured during the protests.
Among those affected is journalist Cecilia Ngunjiri was reportedly injured while covering the protests. Eyewitnesses claim she was struck by police while documenting the events.
