A Nairobi Court on Thursday, June 9 sentenced two men linked to a robbery incident to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of the crime.

The two,  Humprey Muhambe and Timothy Muzami, were captured on video through a CCTV camera robbing a pedestrian along Rosewood Avenue in Kilimani, Nairobi while armed with a pistol and a knife on June 25, 2020.

Senior Principal Magistrate Zainab Abdul while issuing the verdict noted with concern the lack of remorse by the suspects during their cross examination where they admitted to robbing one Paul Sewe Omanyi of his bag containing a laptopand other accessories all valued at over Kshs 396,000.

Omanyi's statement to the police revealed that he was robbed off a Macbook, an iPhone, a magic keyboard, a mouse, eyeglasses and their accessories, among other items that were in the bag he was seen handing over to his assailants in the footage of the early morning robbery.

Magistrate Abdul also noted that the firearm used in the robbery was also not recovered by the police, and speculated that it could be in the wrong hands carrying out criminal activities.

"I have considered that such crimes are rampant nowadays and the weapon used by the accused persons to rob the complainant was never recovered. It is still out there committing similar offences," she stated.

Abdul proceeded to hand them a life sentence stating that with the increase of such incidents, it was only right to have them serve as an example to young men who were contemplating of joining gangs and taking part in crime.
