UDA National Elections Board chair Anthony Mwaura was on Thursday, November 24 sworn in as Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Chairperson.

The oathtaking ceremony was presided over by Deputy Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Paul Maina and Mwaura's oath was administered by the Registrar of Magistrates Court Peter Mulwa at the Supreme Court Buildings in Nairobi.

According to a gazette notice penned by President William Ruto dated November 17, Anthony Ng’ang’a Mwaura will hold the position of KRA Chairperson for three years.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(2) (a) of the Kenya Revenue Authority Act, I, William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces appoint Anthony Ng'ang'a Mwaura to be the Chairperson of the Kenya Revenue Authority, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 18th November 2022," the gazette notice read.

The remaining board members are set to be appointed by Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungu.

The President Ruto ally replaced the former head of Civil Servants Francis Muthaura who had held the position of KRA chair since October 2019 since his appointment by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta. Muthaura’s tenure was set to end in May next year after his term was renewed for the second time in 2020.

Mwaura's appointment is among major changes the head of state has undertaken in the country's key institutions, seemingly installing his close allies in various positions.

Other changes include the appointment of the former Taita Taveta governor John Mruttu as the chairperson of the Agricultural Finance Corporation, replacing former Cabinet minister Franklin Bett.

Another close ally Halima Yussuf Mucheke who unsuccessfully vied for the Igembe North Parliamentary UDA ticket, was appointed to serve as the chairperson of the Tourism Regulatory Authority.
