Uhuru, Chang'aa, Busaa Added in Oxford Dictionary

The funniest new words and phrases added to the Oxford English Dictionary  (OED) has been revealed - including 'Chang'aa, Busaa and Uhuru.

This comes after it recently added a mixture of Swahili words to its dictionary.

The words include nyama choma, asante sana, collabo, come-we-stay, jembe, pressed, sambaza, sheng, tarmac and unprocedural.

The words were included in June 2022 as both adjectives and verbs.

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has served as a lexical record of the world’s most widely spoken language – and its culture – since it was founded in the mid-19th century.

Last year saw words we are now sick of added to the Oxford Dictionary, including social distancing, furlough and PPE.

Between March and June this year, already over 700 words have been added, and the team at Unscrambled Words have picked out some of the best.
