Director of Criminal Investigations Mohammed Amin has directed security agencies in Tranz Nzoia county to concert their efforts, and reign in on cartels that have taken root at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) regional depot.

Speaking at different venues to officers from the National Police Service (NPS), DCI Amin noted that criminal activities are on the rise in the region - with cattle rustling and smuggling of goods toping the list.

DCI Amin commenced his three-day working tour in the North Rift region where he is representing Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome.

"Criminal cartels lodged in this county have infiltrated the NCPB and are shamelessly smuggling government's subsidized fertilizer to neighbouring countries. This is denying our farmers the opportunity to increase production, which is a sabotage to government's efforts of reviving the economy," he said.

He thus called upon all security operators and the customs officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to exercise greater agility in monitoring operations at the Suam border, firmly enforcing laws that control movement of persons and goods into and out of the country.

This comes barely six weeks since he visited the same region to assess the security situation and take stock of the challenges faced by NPS officers in executing their mandate.

Starting at Suam Border Post which connects Kenya and Uganda, Mr Amin moved to and addressed officers at the Chepchoina GSU Camp, before advancing to GSU Miti Mbili Camp, Anti - Stock Theft Unit 'K' Coy and KPS, APS and DCI officers based at Chepchoina and Endebes.
