Machakos governor and Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader Alfred Mutua has been making headlines recently over his dramatic exit from the Azimio One Kenya Coalition party led by Raila Odinga to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by his rival Deputy President William Ruto.

Beneath his outgoing persona on the political scene is a man who enjoys time to himself away from the glitz and glamour and revealed eight facts about him that many probably did not know in a sit-down interview with Standard Digital.

His hidden talent is his proficiency in martial arts, particularly in the discipline of kungu fu, which he stated that he has practiced for many years now. In a quick demonstration, he showcased his exceptional skills expertly assuming different fighting positions followed by a succession of kicks and blows.

When asked about the most ridiculous facts that he knew, he stated that someone once told him that there are only two things you can find anywhere in the world, potatoes and peas, they can survive anywhere in the world. Research states that the two crops are ideal as they are disease resistant and require little to no supervision to grow.

The governor stated that given the choice to go back to high school or college, he would opt for the latter, as he believes that it would open doors for him in fields he lacked knowledge in.

"You need to learn throughout your life, you do not go to college for the money, you go to increase your knowledge and therefore live a more complete life," Mutua stated.

He revealed that he was once arrested when he was a young journalist at the border town of Tunduma between Zambia and Tanzania while he was filming a documentary that was prohibited at the time. He was saved by a commanding officer who thought he was an American as he was donned in a cardigan with Washington University inscribed on it.

Mutua stated that he enjoys cooking and frequents the kitchen on a regular basis.

His fondest childhood memory was spending his time with his parents, particularly his father who he described as the funniest man he has ever come across in his life, as well as with his mother was the most loving parent to him and his siblings, which made their childhood wholesome.

What Kenyans may not know about him is that he is self-built, but also the fact that he has used his influence to help other people in their success as well.

He is also a proud father who is close to his children but chooses to keep them out of the media, as his life is often in the public eye.

His favorite Kenyan artists are Mejja, Sauti Sol, Masauti, and rapper Khaligraph Jones who he says are on the come up to become megastars.
