Jimmy Kibaki, the son of late president Mwai Kibaki has come forward to condemn the use of his name by several fake social media accounts that have purported that he has expressed support for Deputy President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza alliance.

In a statement released on Friday, May 13, he distanced himself from the Twitter accounts impersonating him and urged Kenyans to refrain from paying attention to them as he is not the author of the said sentiments regarding DP Ruto.

“It has come to my attention that there are several fake Twitter accounts impersonating me, and purporting to imply that I support the Kenya Kwanza political formation,” the statement reads in part.

“I would like to take this opportunity to inform Kenyans that they should ignore all fake and preposterous announcements emanating from these delinquent imposters.”

He further reiterated his unwavering support for the current head of state President Uhuru Kenyatta, maintaining that his solidarity is mounted on the decades of friendship that his family shares with the Kenyattas.

“Any right-thinking Kenyan who understands the 62-year relationship between the Kenyatta and Kibaki families will know that my loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta is sacrosanct, and our 50-year-old friendship endures,” Jimmy said.

He however remained tightlipped on his most preferred presidential candidate, and hence urged Kenyans to quell the rumors as he would not be revealing where his vote lies.

“As to who I will vote for in the upcoming presidential election in August...as the voting is by secret ballot, my vote is, as it is for my fellow citizens, my secret,” he remarked
