The Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition party led by ODM Leader Raila Odinga has upped the tempo in its pursuit for answers in the tragic death of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Omondi Ogolla.

Aside from the official inquest by the military, the leaders also want a judicial inquiry into the helicopter crash that killed General Ogolla and nine others.

"The Parliamentary Group meeting has called for a judicial inquest into the accident and death as opposed to mere investigations led by the ,military that is closed to the civilians. We also demand that families of the victims be independently represented in the inquest," National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi stated.

The Azimio leaders also differed with the decision by President William Ruto to appoint another investigation team separate from the one gazetted by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.

"Already we are seeing worrying signs. We have noted that Mr Ruto set up a separate investigation team away from the one gazetted by CS Kipchumba Murkomen in the notice dated April 19, 2024," Mr Wandayi said.

Murkomen had initially appointed a seven member team to investigate the situation of previous aircraft involved in accidents. He, however, noted that his ministry is only mandated to investigate non-military and non-state aviation.

"The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is as concerned as I am on the death of Ogolla. There will be no shroud of doubt on what happened to General Ogolla. There shall never be extra-judicial killings or political assassinations in Kenya under my watch," President Ruto said during the late CDF's final send off.
