The body of Richard Otieno, the head teacher of Raganga Primary School in Kisii County was retrieved from a well near his home at Aloo Estate in Oyugis Town.

Teachers from the region have since called upon the police to probe Otieno's mysterious death.

Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary Patrick Were told police in Rachuonyo South that there are many questions surrounding their colleague's death, noting that the well had a lockable seal.

"We are still wondering how he got into the well. There are a lot of suspicions about how he died," Were said.

Gilbert Kobe, Otieno's brother, revealed that the deceased's body was discovered by his son who had gone to fetch water from the well.

He told the press that he had talked to his brother earlier that week and was supposed to help him with some work. That is part of the reason he travelled home from Narok.

"I was informed that my brother went missing on Tuesday. He left home without his mobile phone and never told anyone where he was going," Kobe said.

When Otieno failed to come home, they immediately mounted a search for him and were unsuccessful until five days later.

Confirming the incident Rachuonyo South Police Commander Lilies Wachira stated that officers had already been assigned to investigate the matter.

"The teacher was found dead after the family reported him missing. The matter is being investigated," Wachira said.

Otieno's body was moved to Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital pending an autopsy.
