The murder trial of Lucy Njambi Nyagiko, who was kidnapped, raped, doused in sulphuric acid and left for dead allegedly by her estranged husband has been determined.

In a long awaited verdict, Justice Joel Ngugi found former Member of the Nairobi County Assembly (MCA) for Riruta, Samuel Ndung'u his girlfriend Joyce Njambi and Wilson Mungai guilty of Nyagiko's murder.

At around 8 pm on January 24, 2018, Nyagiko was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Thindigua estate along Kiambu Road. She would later be raped, doused with acid, and left for dead in a coffee plantation along the Ruiru-Kiambu road.

She was rescued and rushed to the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital where she received specialised treatment. Unfortunately, she passed away on January 26 that year.

The court heard that Ndung'u and Nyagiko were married from 2011 until their separation late in 2017. At the time of the deceased's death, Wilson Mungai was the former MCA's close friend. Joyce Njambi was the MCA's girlfriend.

After denying the charges against them, the accused were against 38 witnesses lined up by the prosecution. Despite minor discrepancies in the prosecution's evidence, Justice Joel Ngugi noted that he had critically considered and determined the case.

“The conclusion is that I find that the Prosecution has proved the case against each of the three Accused Persons beyond reasonable doubt and I hereby convict each of the three Accused Persons of the murder of Lucy Njambi Nyagiko as charged,” Justice Ngugi said.
