The two men captured in viral video hanging dangerously out of a moving Mercedes Benz vehicle along Mombasa Road have been arrested.

The two, Peter Igadwa Agawy, and Peleg Mosongo Momari were arrested by the police on Monday, April 22, 2024 and spent the night at Capital Hill Police Station.

Loise Apata, their driver is still at large but the vehicle, a Mercedez Benz is impounded at the Nairobi Area Traffic Headquarters.

The two will be arraigned at the Millimani Law Courts on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

A search for the trio was mounted after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen shared the video online, cautioning Kenyans against endangering themselves and other road users through unruly behaviour.

The CS called out the owner of the vehicle, assuring that relevant authorities would act on the matter.

"Mr. James Gathogo Njeri this is how your car white Mercedes Benz KCX 959B class E-250 was being driven on Mombasa Road in one of those “where is the Minister” moments. We are concerned and a responsible citizen has alerted us. We shall do what we must," Murkomen wrote on X.

The video of the two making merry as they hung outside their car was recorded by occupants of a trailing vehicle. In the video, they could be heard urging the two men to stop risking their lives and that of other road users.

The incident ignited anger among members of the public who called for punishment of punitive traffic offenders.

At the moment, Kenya is experiencing a rising number of deaths resulting from road carnage across the country. As of April 2024, the National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) has reported over 1,320 deaths resulting from road accidents.
