President William Ruto has directed all schools in the country to reopen on Monday, May 13, 2024.

The head of state issued the directive upon the advice of the Kenya Meteorological Department, predicting better weather conditions this upcoming week.

President Ruto directed the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to liaise with schools to construct damaged classes and other facilities.

Schools were initially set to reopen on April 29, 2024, but the date was pushed back due to the adversities of the ongoing floods.

Various government agencies and committees have been deployed to assess the effects of the floods while helping persons affected.

Kenya Met has announced that rains are expected to subside going into next week.
