Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura's chopper was forced to make an emergency landing in Kikuyu on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Mwaura was in the company of Red Cross officials and was headed to Nyando, South Nyanza to assess the effects of the ongoing floods.

The pilot was forced to land the helicopter due to weather conditions and for fear of the safety of persons onboard.

"I am safe fellow Kenyans. Our plane had to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu Constituency due to poor weather conditions.

"Idriss Ahmed the Secretary General of the Kenya Redcross and I had gone to Nyando in Kisumu to deliver relief of Non-Food Items (NFIs) to the Floods Affected Persons (FAPs). We arrived home safely and we thank God for this," he stated.

In a statement, Mwaura's office indicated that the government spokesperson is safe along with the other officials and has since proceeded to Nyando.

"The Spokesman Hon Dr. Isaac Mwaura is safe. The helicopter plane that he and Idriss Ahmed the Kenya Red Cross SG were using from Nyando had to make an emergency landing in Gishungo, Kikuyu Constituency due to poor weather conditions. They had gone to give relief to affected people," Mwaura's office said.

In a video seen by Now.co.ke, Mwaura asked police officers and members of the public who had arrived at the scene of the incident to secure the helicopter.

"We just landed here, this is Idriss from Red Cross. We are pleading with you to look after the plane and our pilot will fly it out of here tomorrow morning," Mwaura could be heard saying.
