Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka now claims that his life is in danger. This comes days after the lawmaker successfully sponsored an impeachment motion at the National Assembly against Agriculture and Livestock Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.

Wamboka on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, told a pre-trial committee led by Marsabit Woman Representative Naomi Waqo that he has been forced to enhance his security fearing for his life.

"I have been followed by unmarked cars and unknown people; it is not easy but I will soldier on for the integrity of the Republic of Kenya," he testified.

Wamboka further pleaded with the National Assembly to come up with a security framework for members that sponsor motions in parliament.

The Waqo-led committee is expected to table the findings of the investigation into CS Linturi's involvement in the fertiliser scandal before Speaker Moses Wetangula on Monday, May 13.

Wamboka's defence will be led by seasoned lawyer John Khaminwa. He will present eight witnesses - six farmers and two experts - as part of his defence.

"We are ready to prosecute the case on why Mr Linturi should be impeached. We will rely heavily on documents signed by Agriculture Principal Secretary Paul Rono and we request this committee to appear before it," the Bumula MP said.

The lawmaker also asked the committee to summon the chief executive officer at KEL Chemicals.

CS Linturi's defence led by Dr Muthomi Thiankolu has disputed the witness list presented by Wamboka, arguing that they should have been included as part of the impeachment motion.

Mrs Waqo assured both parties of a fair hearing, adding that the committee will deliberate on whether to allow Wamboka's team to present PS Rono as a witness or not.

Linturi is facing three counts; gross misconduct, gross violation of the constitution and committing a crime.
