Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru made a site visit to Kasarani Stadium on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, to assess the progress of renovation works being undertaken by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in readiness to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) through the KDF is tasked to oversee and supervise the renovation of the Stadium, in line with the International Association Football Federation (FIFA) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, owing to their efficiency and effectiveness in undertaking projects on time.

In his address to the project contractor, Mariru emphasised the importance of adhering to the project timeline and specifications according to the project’s Bill of Quantities (BQ), adding that there was no way around it but to deliver as is expected and outlined.

Thereafter, the team toured different project sites under renovation including the football pitch, changing rooms, the roof canopy, and the progress of installations of new stadium seats among other areas.

Mariru was accompanied by the Chief of Infrastructure at the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Titus Sokobe and Senior Military Officers. Also present was the Stadium Manager Lillian Nzile.
