Officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Thursday, May 9, 2024, arrested four traffic police officers for corruption.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency revealed that the traffic officers were nabbed at the junction of Embu-Siakago Road in Embu County for extorting money from motorists.

The four; IP Sammy Cherogony, CPL Maurice Mwakachora, PC Fozia Hallake and PC Adan Mohamed Iman, all from Kiritiri Police Station, were processed at  EACC Integrity Centre Police Station and are currently held at Kilimani Police Station pending further action.

On Thursday, EACC shared a video of the calculated arrests, showing how the officers employed multiple tactics to collect bribes from motorists.

In the video, the officers could be seen soliciting money from motorists operating commercial and Public Service Vehicles (PSV).

Strategically hidden from the sight of the officers, EACC recorded the officers picking up what appeared to be money dropped on the road by motorists before sneakily putting it away.

In another instance, an officer appeared to receive a mobile money payment from a motorist. Reports have since indicated that officers provide a mobile money agent number for motorists who do not have cash.
