Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johanna Ng’eno has been removed as chairperson of the National Assembly Committee on Housing and Urban Planning over allegations of graft.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker was ousted after 12 of 15 committee members voted in favour of his removal - labelling him corrupt and incompetent.

Ng'eno was accused of leveraging his position as head of the lucrative housing committee to allegedly extort developers bidding to construct houses under the National Affordable Housing Programme - which is at the heart of President William Ruto's development agenda.

The opposing committee members while pursuing his removal met National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, to discuss the matter.

They accused Ng'eno of sidelining them from key decision-making issues. They opposed his leadership style, adding that it is derailing the President's national growth agenda.

Despite being one of the key members in the Kenya Kwanza camp who pushed for the implementation of the Affordable Housing Act 2023, Ng'eno now becomes the first chair of a committee to be removed from his position in the 13th Parliament.
