Another Poll Places Ruto Ahead of Raila With 34 Days to Elections

Deputy President William Ruto is likely to manage a round one win against his key  competitor, the Azimio-One Kenya coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

In a survey released Tuesday July 5, by Intel Research Solutions (IRS), an African based full market and social Research company said 49.9 percent of the respondents would vote for Ruto while 42.5 percent named Raila as their preferred candidate.

Ruto, however, plunged by 2.8 percent of the voters from 51.2 percent in an earlier report released by IRS on June 19 to 49.9 percentage mark.

"A  runoff is not a possibility in this case given that there is a month of intense campaign ahead to garner the minimum 50+1," read the IRIS report.

The poll also indicated that Ruto led in most counties including Mt. Kenya, Western, Rift Valley and Northern part of Kenya.

It added that Raila Odinga was ahead of Ruto in his Nyanza home backyard, Nairobi, Coast and South Eastern counties.

With the gender issue coming on board the DP remained the most preferred candidate after the study revealed that 50.2 percent  of the female and 48.5 of the male voters would elect him .

The IRS study attributed the new results to the running mate choices made by both Odinga and Ruto ahead of the August elections.

"The mountain has significantly rallied behind the DP despite the intense lobby by the Odinga camp. The significant difference is likely to produce the swing vote for the election," said the poll.

Raila's popularity dropped from 42 percent from the last poll conducted by Infotrack and released in early June.

In the findings, Roots party presidential candidate George Wajakoya was ranked third at 2.8 percent of the voters preferring him.

At the same time Agano presidential hopeful David Mwaure's popularity received a boost by 0.4 percent to 1.1 percent.

The numbers of the undecided voters stood at 0.1 percent.

The survey conducted in all the 47 counties saw a total of 23,464 respondents interviewed.
