Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok was on Monday morning, April 15, 2015 involved in a road accident at Kipsorwet area along the Bomet-Longisa Road.

Confirming the incident, police stated that Governor Barchok's vehicle, a Toyota Prado, hit a boda boda as he left his home. One pillion passenger suffered injuries to the head and was rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital. The boda boda rider is said to have ran off immediately after the accident.

Bomet Central Police boss Musa Imamai explained that the rider was headed to Bomet Town when he made an abrupt u-turn and was hit by the Governor's car.

"The pillion passenger was injured while the boda boda rider escaped immediately after the accident and is being sought by the police to record a statement," Imamai stated.

The governor, his driver and security officer were unhurt. They were evacuated from the accident scene by another vehicle.

"The governor was not injured and has been engaged in official functions including a meeting with Diamond Trust Bank managers from South Rift," Governor Barchok's press secretary Mary Terer affirmed.

Benjamin Rotich, the pillion passenger, was treated at Longisa County Referral Hospital and later released.
