Grade six pupils have gotten an eleven-day extension following new government directives.

The deadline has been extended from August 30th to September 11th giving relief to Kenyans who are yet to make the application.

Professor George Magoha spoke at Kibra where he was inaugurating the Competency-Based Curriculum classrooms.

Earlier on, he had commissioned classrooms at Kimunyu Boys High School in Kiambu County.

Professor Magoha admitted that the system had faced some hiccups that led to the interference with the second term academic calendar. He attributed the delays in application to the disruption that came about during the electioneering period.

“We have done extremely well in terms of registering our children for Grade Seven. We are also human as we have interfered with some dates. We started late and we have had hiccups. Therefore, as a government, we have decided to extend the school selection process for another 10 days,” said Prof Magoha.

The criteria for school selection will be two national schools, two regional schools, two county schools, four sub-county schools, and two private schools.

Most learners will be placed in day schools within their locality . Some junior secondary schools also share the compound with primary schools.

Private Schools with proper infrastructure have also been commissioned to serve as Junior Secondary Schools for the January intake.

Students who will choose to enroll in private Junior Secondary Schools will have to foot for their school fees hence missing out on the government’s free education for Secondary School Students. The national government is yet to regulate school fees for CBC training but school heads have ascertained that CBC training is more high-cost.

Education Cabinet Secretary stated that his goal was to complete the CBC classrooms were ready so that as the government transitions, the new administration finds a house in order. According to George Magoha, the CBC classrooms project is 90% complete with most of the classrooms at the roofing stage.

Professor Magoha also pleaded with teachers in Kakamega and Mombasa counties to remain vigilant and to look after the students so that they are not caught up in anything that may arise.

This is in light of the gubernatorial elections that are set to happen tomorrow Monday 29th. Some of the institutions of learning will be used as polling centers.

He also spoke on the readiness of grade six, class eight, and form four students on their readiness to begin exams come November.
