Boris Johnson has on Thursday stand down as United Kingdom (UK) Prime Minister after the mass resignation of his ministers, prompted by a string of scandals.
According to the BBC, Johnson has said he will carry on until the fall when a new Conservative Party leader will be chosen.
Following a fatal onslaught of resignation of more than 50 cabinet ministers which continued on Thursday morning , with Michelle Donelan's departure as Education Secretary.
This makes her the fifth Cabinet Minister to quit .
The embattled UK leader’s grip on power began slipping last month following a narrow victory in a no-confidence vote.
On Tuesday, July 5, two top cabinet ministers, Chancellor Rishi Sunak and Health Secretary Sajid Javid, resigned in protest at his handling of allegations of misconduct against a prominent Conservative Party lawmaker.
Many commentators have drawn the comparison between Johnson’s behaviour and Donald Trump’s refusal to concede his election loss to Joe Biden.
