Gubernatorial elections in Kakamega and Mombasa Counties Underway

By-elections in the counties of Kakamega and Mombasa have kicked off today. During the 9th August general elections, the voting could not take place due to a mix up of voting materials for the gubernatorial contest.


In Mombasa gubernatorial aspirants include; Abdulswamad Nassir of ODM,Hezron Awiti(VDP) Hassan Omar of UDA,Daniel Munga Kitsao (Independent),Said Abdalla(Usawa kwa Wote),Shafii Makazi(UPIA)and Antony Chitavi of UDP.


Today’s gubernatorial winner will be taking over from Ali Hassan Joho popularly known as Governor 001 who has served his two terms at the helm of Mombasa County.


In Kakamega County the candidates seeking to fill the governor position include Cleophas Malala vying on an ANC ticket,Fernandez Baraza vying on an ODM ticket ,Samuel Omukoko of MDP and Cyrus Jirongo of UDP Party.


Parliamentary contests is also happening at the following constituencies;Rongai Constituency,Pokot South,Kitui Rural Costituency and Kacheliba constituency.


By 6:00am the voting had already kicked off in majority of the polling stations even thought there were no long queues.


Despite Monday being made a public holiday,the voters have turned out in alarmingly low numbers to fulfil their civic duties.

In some of the polling stations the Kiems Kit have failed, Such is the case in Tudor Village Hall.


Security has been heightened in these polling centres to ensure that the process is conducted seamlessly.


Meanwhile a 17-year old student from Kakamega High School has gone missing. The school reports that he has gone missing after being denied sick leave from school.
