I Will Respect Supreme Courts Verdict:Dr. William Ruto

President-elect William Ruto has declared that he will respect the verdict of the Supreme Court. This is in regard to the matter filed by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga challenging the declaration of William Ruto as president-elect by Wafula Chebukati.


He was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja


He has also impressed upon all leaders to respect the decisions of judicial bodies in regard to presidential petitions.

“…I ask all leaders of Kenya to listen to the loud message coming from the citizens of our country. They are speaking to us loudly that they want their politics to be non-tribal and peaceful,” said Ruto


He urged all leaders to conclude the remaining bit of elections in a peaceful, orderly, and respectful manner respecting the institutions dispensing their duties as mandated by the Constitution.


William Ruto also congratulated Sakaja for winning the gubernatorial race despite all the hurdles regarding his academic credentials. Dr.Ruto told Sakaja that he had made the Kenya Kwanza fraternity proud.


"Congratulations from my family and Kenya Kwanza. You have made us proud; I want to take this opportunity to wish you well as you take up the reign as the governor of this great city, which is also the capital of the Republic of Kenya, "William Ruto stated.


Kwanza Kenya officials were also present at the inauguration ceremony at KICC. William Ruto was in the company of elected members from the Kenya  Kwanza Coalition.


Ann Kananu, the outgoing governor, was also present to facilitate the handing over of the county leadership. Sakaja now becomes the fourth Nairobi governor after Ann Kananu, Mike Sonko, and Evans Kidero.


He garnered 699,393 votes thereby defeating Polycarp IIgathe who got 573,516 votes.



Justice Roselyne Aburili and Deputy Registrar of the Magistrates Court Caroline Kabucho administered the oath of office to Sakaja and his deputy, Njoroge Muchiri.


For the first time, elected governors have signed an integrity document prepared by The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. (EACC).


The Supreme Court judges have until Monday to hear and determine the petitions filed.
