Kirinyaga has witnessed heated competition between incumbent governor Anne Waiguru and former Women Representative Wangui Ngirici.

While addressing congregants at ACK St.Thomas Cathedral  Kerugoya town she said she would challenge the IEBC’s decision to declare Anne Waiguru governor-elect Kirinyaga county.

Ngirici claimed the elections were rigged and that God was slowly revealing what took place.

“I am not bitter with anybody, I am only going to follow through and make sure the will of the people will not be subverted. We are going to go on, we will make a petition,” she said

She was keen to urge her followers and ardent supporters to remain calm as she follows due process. She further stated that she was sure justice would prevail.

"We are going to file a petition since we have enough evidence that about 51,000 votes were rigged for them to defeat me with only a mere 3,000 votes," Ngirici added.

Waiguru was declared governor having gotten 113,088 votes on a UDA ticket while Wangui Ngirici got 105,677 votes having contested as an independent candidate.

Soon after tallying process began on Wednesday 10th August Waiguru alleged election misconduct and rigging by her counterparts. She called upon the IEBC to halt the tallying process until investigations into the matter were concluded.

“Rigging in broad daylight. Two ballot boxes with governor's ballots enter Kianyaga through the back door in broad daylight! They must be removed and counting should stop” Waiguru retorted.

After allegations and counter-allegations from both sides Geoffrey Gitobu Gichugu constituency Returning Officer, allowed the re-tallying of governor votes.
